Pop a capsule of vitamin entitled 'Some Nights'

Four or five tracks on the second play of Fun been sufficient to discover the new step forward that has given the American band. Between the arbitrary and the meticulously controlled, Fun are experts on what to have fun with the (apparent) intensities disorder characterized his music. 'Some Nights' is perhaps the clearest evidence on this LP that New York has an innate ability to entertain the staff.

Now you can build an introduction with background vocals to the Queen, who, in a matter of seconds, all with a dynamite percussion rhythm can break down walls and mountains. By and not to mention the vocal outbursts of Nate Ruess, or guitar rumblings are heard throughout the topic. All evidence a fact: Fun have distanced themselves from that sphere full of indie pop that belonged in the past. Now the American trio has grown, evolved and cries invade the field of commercial pop.

Nothing is what it seems in the world of Fun Welcome to the world where the spread is precisely that which is caught by hand.

Nada Surf Madrid (The Riviera, Feb. 18, 2012)

How can we wonder Nada Surf? With a discography rather flat, his style has been maintained since "High / Low" (1996) to the recent "The Stars Are Indifferent to Astronomy" pop rock with a respectable result of a simple formula: strong melodies, lyrics that delve on social issues in an elaborate and original (not everything is "Always Love") and a special heat transmitted to the public in every direct. Three items that are not out of the ordinary and that together, are what should be any band that deserves to go on stage. The magic of Nada Surf is that by doing what they do and how they, beyond reach. They are alchemists of his own music on stage and just becoming something else. One thing that hooked.

But before you start with New York, special mention for Waters. I could say that 'heated up the atmosphere', which is the stone with which we carry all the openers, but I fall short, so short that I had some panic to the direct ensombreciesen Nada Surf. Very Pixies, the San Francisco knew how to win guitarrazo based scenic and strength, no shoegazer attitude, all by and for the audience front and forceful. They played songs from his latest album "Out in the Light", and ended with them singing "Forever Forever" "Mickey Mantle". The good feeling was served on the Riviera, and just needed the appearance of those legendary dreadlocks Daniel Lorca and company.

And Lorca, Spanish representation of Nada Surf, strong wine. Lasted only two songs ("Clear Mind Clouded Eye" and "Waiting For Something") before turning to the audience the third issue, for non-neophytes of the banda was a blessing: "Happy Kid" from the album " Let Go ". Thus began a presentation of his new album in a wide mix knew setlist with an overview of the most notorious of his discography. We, who know what we like and how. That's how accommodating they are.

The last time I saw Nada Surf was a live recording for Radio 3 concerts featuring the album "Lucky". On Saturday in Madrid had rejuvenated. It had to do, and much, incorporation for this tour of two components: Martin Wenk of Calexico and Doug Guillard of Guided by Voices gave a clear added value to Nada Surf, introducing new topics and offering a different force cuts always with an air of reinvention-listen to a final "80 windows" with trumpet and including "Hi Speed Soul" with the touch of theremin is dissonant, certainly something more and better in the race for New Yorkers. Besides knowing what we like, know how to do it differently. Do not bore us know.

There is something you notice in the environment in concert Nada Surf: despite being surrounded by hundreds of strangers (the Riviera sold out Saturday night in the capital) feels an implicit camaraderie that goes with any direct banda. Including political message through the defense of the Internet ("If we are here for nothing: unburden what I feel like it"), Nada Surf get a familiarity that causes a confirmation of a date in a city is mandatory . But when they start sounding chords of songs like "See These Bones" or the version of "Evolution" of Mercromina.

I will not detract from the new songs sounded flawless, and far more villains than I expected after hearing the album-but I, sometimes I get very sentimental, I'll take the last two encores: "Popular" and "Year Blankest ". Matthew Caws is delivered as recited this poem teen, but that both moves and touches of "Popular". And just crying together a "Fuck it, I'm goint to Have A Party". At the end of the day, Nada Surf are a 'usual'. And we always want to stay here.

Appalache: The Search For Serenity

The nebulous and buzzing drones interspersed freak folk ambient pieces on "Fue" so something sounding like a travelogue. The music by Julien aka Magot APPALACHE here reflects the impressions and experiences of a year of traveling through various regions of the world in regional musical references, but above all also emotionally. The original culture of the Native American impressed Frenchman succeeds, the ambivalence of the experiences of an explorer - wide, empty and cold, security, joy and hope, patience, reflection, and rags, rest, orienting and arrivals etc. - Make audible, and the resulting mood swings experienced. "Fue" is not only a retrospective of a spatial journey, but also a description of a spiritual journey. It is the search for serenity, for a hopeful view of a calm and Future expectations with respect to the things that might come there.

Holy water pipeline and Seehofer intestinal

Six siblings of the family are well in the intimate theater in "fine be bleibn other leg" on stage together and perfecting the subversive component Bavarian house music: As a really warm your heart in this frigid winter.

This will be a blockbuster in the chamber play, no question, "be fine, bleibn including other" The entertaining revue have the Bärbi, Karli, Burgi, Michael, Moni and Christoph Well, along with director Franz Wittenbrink put together. Two special guests there's the bargain: the great old lady of the well-dynasty, mother Gertraud Well, and "Santa Claus" Gerhard Polt. The Brav Heits diagnosis of the latter at the well mom is hilarious. He lists all the children and then asks sternly, "? Must be Yes everything has the" Because of the well-Mom is just a shy "Yes, my" from the lips, after which the Polt with a "I hope that I can not happen again "and the farewell" at Easter comes Santa Claus again "after a few minutes of shuffling off the stage.

Gerhard Polt and Gertraud Well

The Wellsche view of Bavaria and the world is as it should be, when two ex-members of Biermösl Blosne on stage, socially critical and disrespectful: The CSU is going downhill ("I warn the size wias firmament, book now samma happy by 40 percent "), the whole constitutional protection is anyway at the NPD, in today's families, it is normal to the grandma in the nursing home deport (" Who nimmtn d'Grandma de in a coma "), the Catholic Church is corrupt, the pharmaceutical industry deceives us with revenue of more obscure pills to be happy. Even the refusal to rent the Munich Pinakothek, the Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg, a self-portrait by Albrecht Dürer, the wells are pretty funny. They invent stories of a holy water pipeline running from Russia via Altötting to Lourdes, and fulminate against the planned third runway at Munich airport. Prime Minister Seehofer is taken a little squeamish with the song "In the gut," a target, because there have never done any CSU politicians comfortable, "De Hasselfeldt, in Berlin, since Guttenberg was cited scho there because Ramsauer, like a tick, the wennst moi did bring, never gone. "

Bavarian response to AC / DC

On top there is the Bavarian version of "Highway to Hell", the "Bolero" by Maurice Ravel and the rapper 40 Cent is in no time a tirade against the meager price of milk, "I dealn san with white gold, for the koana what zoiht ... I Agricultural aggro, fuck the farmers' association, because when price increases net na ma plug your car on fire. "

In between the siblings bicker a bit more of who is who now has the time with one of the poker is fried, but Drum's: The music was always an element of peacemaking. Looking at all the instruments on stage are hung artfully draped, so it's hard to believe that they will be played instead of an orchestra that evening just six people. From the ukulele on the bagpipes and the harp to the alphorn, everything is possible. If you look at this family look like they asked earnestly, in the next life be born into a large family in Upper Bavaria. A thunderous applause rewarded the two and a half hour evening, after adding a number of the audience is willing to go. All upcoming shows are already sold out.

Here we go: Okwui Enwezor. The Director shall forward

The chairs are not enough. The room is packed with journalists, representatives of the press of Munich's cultural institutions and private individuals who have this date marked in red on the calendar. Soon the last arrived just before guests even grab other chairs from the shipping pallet in the corner and then it starts: The first press conference of the successor of Chris Dercon - Okwui Enwezor - since October 2011, the new director of the museum.

What exhibitions are there? What changes - or no change? Which artists will be shown? How will it go programmatically? When is the first exhibition curated by the new director? And how are they dealt with the 75th anniversary of the museum?

The audience gets a lot of answers in the nearly hour-long presentation by Enwezor. The director showed his change in plans of the interior construction of the museum in its presentation, and also the second change, the graphical appearance of "Stretch your view - your view distance."

The central hall of the museum - so far staked out by Chris Dercon ground with long, dark curtains, will receive a new function. Enwezor sees in this space a "public plaza" the communication between the different parts of the building should be useful: and is therefore kept open.

The construction works have already begun: The side stairways were already open and are now back entrances to the north and Südgalerien the first floor. For the king in a bookstore its associated cabinet was postponed. Compared with this Section 2013, the Archives announced the 75-year history of the house is furnished.

After the internal changes have been introduced in the House of Art, Enwezor is talking about the second portion of a reorganization to read: The graphic redesign of the website and the appearance of the house. On the facade is already clear that the House of Art has a new slogan, "Stretch your view - your view distance" in small black letters.

Among the exhibits are to expand in the areas of future research and learning the offer. So happened now for the House of Art, three different offers to the visitors: Exhibition - research - education. The public site museum will have a place where contemporary art is not only shown but also a place where there is awareness that knowledge generated about contemporary art, and taught to be interpreted. It will be interesting - what awaits the visitor here.

Until mid-November, the visitors have to be patient for the first exhibition of Okwui Enwezor seen. With an exhibition about the record label "ECM - A cultural archeology" the work of the new director begins on the curatorial level.

But until then run the projects, which were compiled by Chris Dercon: The Polish artist Wilhelm Sasnal shows 60 paintings and video works. From 17 February, the photographer Thomas Ruff is honored with an exhibition, the exhibition project of the collector Goetz for their own video collection is ongoing. In summer, the building appears to show the picture - to - picture an exploration of the photographic reporting from crisis areas.

David Mosey - With British charm

Who of you owns and operates a music blog, they will know, the flood of promotional messages, which afflicts one in a short time. Often enough it is flooded with completely obscure stuff, or bands that fit the times not covered by the blog in the musical spectrum. For the reason I read these promos myself only by rare, many I did not click until I fly only on some. All the more pleasing it is when it all between botch and a bead shimmers times - as happened in front of one, two weeks ago when I anschrieb the American singer David Mosey and me his album "English Kills" to his heart lay. Co-produced by McGinty of the Psychedelic Furs offers here in British indie pop tradition, sometimes melancholic, fragile, sometimes going quite well to the front. Especially the first song on the album can really convince! A song from it I can offer you a free download.

London band put their wetsuits on to record new album

Vaccines gear up for second album
The Vaccines' second album will "definitely" be released this year. The follow-up to last year's breakthrough debut is set to be recorded in March, with producer Ethan Johns.

"It'll definitely be out this year, without a doubt," frontman Justin Young told NME. "We've definitely got six songs written that we all want to be on the record, but there's other new songs [too]." Although it is more than a month until the band is due to meet with Johns, in Belgium, the Vaccines have booked some studio time in Australia, where they are touring this week. The group wants to "work on ideas", Young said. "I think we're in a good place with it and it's quite exciting."

The Vaccines' March sessions will mark one year since their first album, What Did You Expect from the Vaccines?, debuted at No 4. That record was assisted by Howling Bells producer Dan Grech-Marguerat. For the new one, the Vaccines have turned to a more experienced producer: Johns has worked on records such as Rufus Wainwright's Poses, Kings of Leon's Because of the Times and Laura Marling's A Creature I Don't Know. He also produced one of Young's "favourite records of all time", Ryan Adams' Heartbreaker.

"The reason we wanted to work with Ethan is not because he's a hit manufacturer, but [because] he's a real songs man," Young said. "All his albums are simple, but really well crafted – and it feels like they really breathe. Our first record is quite linear, so it'd be nice to have something with a bit more warmth and maturity, but still sounds like us."

The Vaccines return to the UK in May.
