Online Museum of the former Riem airport in Munich
Currently, the Munich airport on everyone's lips, as decided in just twelve days Munich's citizens about the third take-off and landing strip. The city is busy with a glimpse into the future, so we would like to take a brief look into the past - a look at the predecessor of the Franz-Josef-Strauss airport. "Bye, bye Riem - beautiful it was with you in Riem" - adopted by these words, Lufthansa captain Michael Sikora on 05/17/1992 at the airport control tower in Riem. Against 22:55 clock started Lufthansa "Freising" as the last plane to applause of hundreds of spectators on its delivery flight to Erding. A short time later, the landing lights in Riem was forever shut. 20 years ago and now this from the airport Munich Riem is no longer much to be known: The coat of arms Hall was built into a business center, the tower stands abandoned and unused for 20 years at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre. A small piece of take-off and landing strip is tucked away in the eastern part of the exhibition and a memorial plaque in Buga Park pays tribute today to the old airport in Munich.
That was Carsten Tauber, the founder of the online museum Riem airport, too little: "In search of other memories, I went back to the Inernet. A few forums and Wikipedia, of course - much larger had not the 'yield', unfortunately. Wikipedia is indeed sufficient evidence of the significant current events at the former Munich airport, but there is little room for detail and emotion. For this reason, I had begun in September 2011, put a small version of the online museum on the Internet. Thanks to great support we have already gathered more than 250 pictures and it will be a lot more. The online museum is growing steadily and is the 25th Anniversary of Munich's new airport to be largely seamless. If we are in an archive can ever speak of integrity ... "
Dear readers! If you are somewhere in the attic, basement or even on their home computers via video, audio and / or film footage, parking tickets, flyers, brochures, etc. available - please contact us at info@flughafenriem.de!
